Evidence of Things Not Seen
"We beg you, grant us your mercy."
-Daniel Jackson, Red Sky
Jack had to look away, his gut twisting with shame and anger. He felt a creeping, prickly horror and wanted to shout, to run away, stop up his ears or cover his eyes, anything to blot out the spectacle of Daniel--Daniel--offering prayers of supplication for the sake of such a willful, stubborn people.
After all, when had any god on any earth, in any heaven, ever granted mercy to Daniel?
Then when Daniel turned and stumbled, slackjawed in the golden light of grace, Jack thought bitterly, Ah, of course. It was only grace if it came unearned.

*reads drabble again*
*is overcome with envy*
"slackjawed in the golden light of grace" Oh man, that's an image of haikutastic perfection. That's one of those phrases that is like a little glimmer of light in a stone wall, and if you put your eye up to it, you see vastness on the other side.
Thank you!!

*happily soaking up the hug*After a day when I have typed variations of "nevertheless, and without waiving said objections, Defendant answers as follows" approximately five million and one times, to hear I finally typed a line that makes someone happy redeems the past ten hours of my life. Thank you, thank you.

Re:
Who knew West Wing had such inspiring titles? (Well maybe some people did, but I did not.) Baphomet is stunningly perfect (and my hat's off to Salieri as well for inspiring stories about minor Jaffa); as it happened, I read yours just after posting and it seemed the perfect corrective and corollary to Things Unseen (though I'm probably flattering myself.)I'm not even sure it comes off right-in my head, it's how the Templars must've felt, coming back from Jerusalem to Philip's torture chambers
Yes. Exactly, exactly. Thank you.

Re:
Your SG drabbles have stayed with me for months now; when I think about certain scenes -- like Jack playing the fool -- I have to remind myself that they took place in 100-word snippets, and I'm amazed. (that one really *was* in a drabble, wasn't? I should doublecheck before making a fool of myself in public, but what the hell. Drabble or not, it's etched in my mind like canon)February 5 2004, 17:31:08 UTC 8 years ago

That is wonderful hyperbole, but I'll gladly take it to heart and believe it all the same. Thank you.February 5 2004, 17:34:28 UTC 8 years ago

Thank you. I imagine it's going a bit stale after fifteen re-readings, but I'm deeply flattered by the stated intent (happy smiling).February 5 2004, 20:07:59 UTC 8 years ago
